Samantha and Rotarian Jeannine Latham will visited and "read" at the Blue Bunny Bookstore in Dedham, MA. Samantha is a very friendly black Lab who is in training with Jeannine to live with, and assist, a disabled child or veteran when her training is completed. Jeannine has been working with Samantha for over one year each weekend to expose her to a variety of environments, situations, and experiences. While at the Blue Bunny, Samantha will demonstrate how an assist dog can help its owner, while stories are being read to the children. Come out to meet Samantha and bring your camera!
The Dedham Rotary Club delivered 100 floral arrangements to the residents of Traditions, 735 Washington Street, Dedham, to celebrate Spring's entrance. Lillian Delmonico, Executive Director at Traditions, welcomed the Club to set up blue iris and baby breath in vases, tied with yellow and blue ribbons, Rotary's signature colors. None of the residents were given advance notice of the delivery, and all were pleasantly surprised to receive their floral gift. Rotarians met with them, while in the main dining room, enjoying lunch. New friendships were formed, and Club members were happy to once again put smiles on the faces of our local senior citizens.
Each spring, the Dedham Rotary Club chooses a new facility to deliver flowers to its residents. Last year, it was Emeritus, now Brookdale, in Dedham. The Dedham Rotary Club is committed to serving its senior citizens, and is grateful for the many contributions they have made to our community over the years.
Four Dedham High School seniors were awarded $1,000 scholarships by the Club toward college expenses in Fall. They are: Jacob Farnham, Christopher Olliney, Olivia Kane, and Ariana Barletta. All students have superior academic records and spent many months doing community service. These scholarships are awarded each year, and new applications are available in March 2019 in the guidance department of Dedham High School. Dedham residents who attend Catholic Memorial, Noble and Grenough, Ursaline Academy, and Xaverian Brothers are also eligible to apply. Dedham Rotary Club wishes all scholarship recipients the best in their future studies.
